he/him | human | Necromancer | 6'0" | ~26 y/o | IPA: /ˈmɑɹ.siən/.
Always smiling, rarely blinks. Bad habit of stalking. Some bloodlust too. Passionate about his work as a physician/mortician. Enjoys dissections.
Polite, calm, intelligent, insane, creepy. Scale of passive aggressive to murderous if you're on his bad side. Blithe about issues that he deems are of no concern to him or his order.
100% delusional but doesn't realize it. Can't cope with conflicting beliefs. Refuses to acknowledge any feelings of doubt, so he is stuck living in the past. Always wants someone/something to guide him.
Fears his own obsolescence, being alone, and change. Tries to be humble but yearns to be revered, or at least appreciated. Despises being away from the monastery.
Sexuality: Asexual aromantic.
Relationship(s): God.
Patron god: Vis, (demi)god of the sun.
VISIC ERA MARCIAN (Seasons 1-3)
Pious monk who was the Prophet of a doomsday cult that worshiped an obscure sun god called Vis. His job was to preserve the corpses of the Apostles (people chosen by Vis to die and become His vessels).
Because he was chosen by God, he had ecstatic visions and heard the voices of the Apostles in his head. They gave him orders from God (the only way He could communicate with His followers).
Had his tongue cut out by the player characters during the game because he refused to give them information that would expose his brethren's plans of growing a physical body large and powerful enough for Vis to be born into the mortal world and destroy it.
CHANTRY ERA MARCIAN (Seasons 3.5-current)
Now dubbed "Apostle" of the Order of the Chantry, which worships "The Lord"—a group of three Canonic gods (Deccis (death), Hoemus (disease), and Bromeo (mirth)).
Marcian fell victim to his delusions and carved the word "SINNER" into his forehead (because he thought God told him to) and cut out his tongue to keep himself from admitting his wrongdoing. Betrayed Agon by choosing to listen to the Apostles and attempting to kill him. Agon regenerated his tongue but left the forehead scars as a reminder of his betrayal.
He finally realized that Vis was dead and the false reality he built to comfort himself was fake. Agon gave Marcian a symbolic funeral to put his old life to rest and baptized him into the Chantry as a Prophet of the Lord.
His personality and habits are still the same, but now he worships Deccis, the goddess of death. He still experiences visions, but they are now from Her.
LICH ERA MARCIAN (semi-canonical future)
Not quite an AU, but also not canon because it hasn’t happened yet. It’s more like a “bad ending” to his arc under the circumstance that Agon passes away unpredictably and Marcian can’t cope with the grief. He attempts many times to revive him, but Agon simply doesn’t want to return. Though Marcian would like to follow Agon to the grave, he feels too strongly connected to the Chantry to let it go. However, he makes a bad leader, and the Order either falls into obscurity or they abandon him. Marcian delves into dark, forbidden magic to try and force Agon to return to him, which gradually upsets Deccis. Marcian has long outlived his time and has begun defying the natural order, which is a damnable defense. As hundreds of years pass, Marcian’s powers grow, but he remains unsuccessful. He becomes a lich with a cult of followers that worship him in exchange for immortality. He eats their souls to survive. Over time, Marcian’s already-tenuous grip on sanity slips and the dark magic corrupts his mind. He still clings to Agon’s corpse, despite not remembering who he is (or if he still even has Agon’s actual body). Having become a menace to society and keeping his enemies too close, his cult eventually topples. He is left abandoned and forsaken to rot in his cathedral alone. Deccis, still displeased, sends Agon’s soul to earth to vanquish him. Marcian fights Agon out of instinct, no longer remembering anything. Agon is victorious and destroys his phylactery, which is located in one of the load-bearing stones in Nelwen, because he’s a sentimental guy. Agon returns to Heaven, but Marcian's fate in Hell was already sealed long ago. Agon pleads with Deccis that there must be some way to give him another chance. Intrigued, She grants his request with one condition: Agon must help him. She reincarnates them both as brothers and sends them both to the Mortal Plane again so that they can teach each other how to love virtuous lives.
